Diagnosis

Mesoscutum with anterior 1/3 with raised reticulation, posterior 2/3 with engraved and weak reticulation; scutellum with engraved and weak reticulation; mesoscutum and scutellum metallic dark bluish-green; propodeal callus with 3-5 setae; femora dark brown; tibiae yellowish-white. Similar to steirastomae but male of crassus very distinct through the strongly inflated scape, 1.9X as long as wide (in steirastomae 3.0-3.8X as long as wide).

Distribution

Brazil, Paraguay.

Biology

From Alabama argillacea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Alabama sp. on Gossypium hirsutum (Malvaceae). The specimens from Brazil have been reared from an ichneumonid cocoon that emerged from larvae of Alabama sp. It is thus very probably that crassus develops as a hyperparasitoid on ichneumonids (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) attacking Lepidoptera larvae. Hyperparasitoid.
